The Kitchen Begins

It's Saturday morning and we've been in our new apartment for two weeks. The place needs work- a lot of work. And the going is slow. But we'll get there, and progress is always fun to document.

In the past, I've always been a big fan of colour; and you'll see that in the pics of our first apartment. But in this place, I'm really pulled in a new direction. I've been inspired by the clean white Scandinavian esthetic. It's so European/ city/ adult/ cool, and I want us to have a bit of that now that we're living in Toronto.

The kitchen is our first project since that is where we spend the majority of our time. It's not a home until you can cook there!

Okay, here's a taste of what I am dreaming of for our new space:

Don't you just love how white and lovely these kitchens are? And I really enjoy the use of open shelving; all the visual colour interest comes from brown sugar and black cast iron, cold beautiful stainless steel and pretty pink dishes. I am completely in love and I hope that I can come somewhere close to duplicating these looks.

So what do you think? Can I turn this:

into this: ?

I'll keep you posted.
